About Khao San & Old Town

Bangkok's historic district suits backpackers seeking late nightlife and travellers wanting to walk between temples.

Khao San Road is loud and crowded with bars, nearby Soi Rambuttri is busy but calmer, and the surrounding blocks hold quiet guesthouses and street food carts. You can walk to the Grand Palace, but rail access is limited to the far edges of the district. Choose this area for historic sights, but skip it if you want easy train connections to modern shopping malls.

Getting there
River ferries from Phra Arthit pier and metered taxis.
Watch out for
Khao San Road plays heavy bass music late into the night.
